Pre-Session Preparation
How to properly prepare for your tattoo session
At least 3 days before: No alcohol!
Alcohol thins your blood, which can make you bleed more during tattooing.
More blood = harder tattooing and slower healing. Your body will thank you - the tattoo will heal faster and hurt less. Seriously - it's worth it.
Moisturise your skin!
For a few days before your session, apply moisturiser to the tattoo area (preferably unscented).
This will make your skin supple, less prone to irritation, and it will accept the ink better.
Drink plenty... of WATER
A hydrated body = healthy, supple skin = better tattoo quality.
Start hydrating 2-3 days before your session. Avoid drinks high in caffeine on the day of tattooing - they can also thin your blood.
No sunbathing or tanning beds
Tanned or sunburnt skin is more sensitive and hurts more during tattooing.
It not only hurts more but also makes the tattoo artist's work harder - pigments don't set as well, and the skin gets irritated faster. Skip the sun and tanning beds for a week before your session.
Get a good night's sleep!
A well-rested body = a body ready to handle the pain.
If you arrive tired, your body will "shut down" faster, and the pain may be more bothersome.
Eat a solid breakfast
A tattoo isn't just emotional - it's also physical effort for your body.
You burn plenty of calories, and with low blood sugar you might: faint, shake, or feel terrible. So eat well, skip the diet for one morning, and bring a snack with you.
Workout? You can skip it
A tattoo is also a form of "workout" - for your skin and immune system.
Better to give yourself a break from the gym on the day of your session (and the day after is also good for recovery).
Wear comfortable clothing
Wear something loose that easily exposes the tattoo area - e.g., short sleeves, shorts.
Preferably something that can get stained with ink - better not to risk your favourite shirt.
Don't shave the tattoo area - we'll do it for you!
Seriously, don't shave yourself - it's easy to irritate the skin, cause micro-damage, or cuts.
Shaving is our standard practice - we have disposable razors, disinfectants, and experience. Yes - even if it's your bum. We're ready, no stress, no judgement. It's our job, and we've seen it all.
Avoid blood-thinning medications
Such as aspirin, ibuprofen - they can cause increased bleeding.
If you take medications regularly - consult with your tattoo artist and/or doctor.
Skip makeup/cosmetics on the tattoo area
The skin must be clean, not covered with BB creams, self-tanner, or perfumes.
Take care of... time
Give yourself some slack. Don't schedule a session between other important plans.
A tattoo is art - it may run over time. You don't want to rush or stress about the clock.
